On the sacred occasion of Guru Purnima, a 12-hour Akhand Gayatri Mahamantra Jap is being held at the Bengaluru Chetna Kendra — an unbroken current of the Mahamantra from 4:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Parijans join in turns through the day so that the chanting never stops, and the sound of the Gayatri Mantra fills the Kendra from before dawn until late afternoon.
Guru Purnima is more than a day of guru vandan. It is a festival of self-reflection and self-refinement — a day to look honestly at the year behind us and awaken the divine consciousness that already rests within. Gurudev's message is the measure we hold ourselves to: "Sadhana, Swadhyay, Sanyam and Seva are the true ornaments of life."
The jap is organised by the Pragya Yuva Prakoshth, Bengaluru (Karnataka) — AWGP's youth wing. All parijans and youth are invited to take a sankalp of at least one mala of Gayatri Mahamantra jap and to sit for whatever part of the day they can. Come for an hour or stay for the full twelve; every mala offered adds to the same unbroken stream.
