The Heart of Spiritual Practice at AWGP

॥ ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

Sadhana is the cornerstone of personal transformation at AWGP. As Gurudev Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya taught, sadhana is not mere ritual — it is a systematic path of inner purification, self-discipline, and awakening. At AWGP Bengaluru we offer several forms of sadhana, each suited to a different schedule and inclination. All are open to everyone — no prior experience required.

Akhand Jap

Akhand Jap

🕐 Every 2nd Saturday · special sittings held occasionally · at the Chetna Kendra

An unbroken group chanting of the Gayatri Mantra — a continuous flow of sacred sound that purifies the whole space.

Akhand Jap is a group sadhana in which the Gayatri Mantra is chanted for hours without a break. Practitioners join in relay so the sacred sound never stops — and it is this continuity that builds a powerful spiritual current. As Gurudev explains, the purpose of mantra is to let its subtle vibrations resonate through every part of you — as touching one string makes the whole instrument hum. The japa is a calling of Gayatri Mata, who accepts every effort offered in a sattvic spirit. No special eligibility or prior experience is needed — families, youth, and elders can all join naturally. Throughout, the presence of the Akhand Deepak (an ever-burning lamp) and dhoop deepens the sacred atmosphere.

  • Hours of unbroken group Gayatri chanting — no prior experience needed
  • Open to all — families, youth, and elders join freely
  • A deep, sacred atmosphere with the Akhand Deepak and dhoop maintained throughout
Gayatri Anusthan

Gayatri Anusthan

🕐 Chaitra & Ashwin Navratri · nine days each

A disciplined nine-day Gayatri sadhana across Navratri — a confluence of japa, restraint, and havan.

Gayatri Anusthan is a laghu purashcharan observed over the nine days of Navratri, completing 24,000 Gayatri mantras in all — 27 malas daily, roughly two and a half hours. It is not japa alone but a tapashcharya. Two rules are essential: brahmacharya and upvas (fruit, milk, or a simple sattvic diet). Three more are optional: sleeping on the floor, doing one's own daily tasks, and giving up anything derived from violence. The practitioner sits facing east, invokes Gayatri Mata and the Guru, and begins the japa. After the nine days, the tenth concludes with a havan, brahmabhoj, and kanya-bhojan (feeding young girls). The firmer the restraint, the more fruitful the practice.

  • 24,000 mantras over nine days — 27 malas daily, about two and a half hours
  • Brahmacharya and upvas are essential — restraint deepens the practice's power
  • Concludes on the tenth day with havan, brahmabhoj, and kanya-pujan
Antah Urja Jagran

Antah Urja Jagran

🕐 Five-day residential retreat · dates announced in advance

A five-day silent retreat to awaken the dormant energy within — held in complete solitude and self-reflection.

Antah Urja Jagran is a five-day residential silent sadhana in which the practitioner stays in solitude and inward focus throughout. There is a complete break from phones, newspapers, and outside reading — attention turns only inward. Each day begins at 4 AM with ushapan (morning water practice) and Atmabodh, followed by an ordered flow of meditation, Pran-sanchar pranayama, Gayatri japa, So'ham, and Nadyoga. The very first day includes "Nishkasan Tap" — the practice of opening the mind's old knots and impurities before the Guru's presence. Roughly six hours go to deep sadhana and two to self-study and reflection. The aim is not any personal wish — only self-refinement and the awakening of inner energy, so that life can find a new direction.

  • Five days of complete silence and digital detox — deep inward practice
  • A structured daily flow of Atmabodh, meditation, japa, So'ham, and Nadyoga
  • "Nishkasan Tap" — releasing the mind's knots to grow lighter from within
Chandrayaan Kalp Sadhana

Chandrayaan Kalp Sadhana

🕐 Lunar-cycle based · once a year · dates announced in advance

A month-long food discipline that moves with the phases of the moon — a deep cleansing of body, mind, and inner self.

Chandrayaan is an ancient kalp sadhana that runs for a full month, from one full moon to the next. Food is gradually reduced and then increased in rhythm with the waning and waxing moon. But it is far more than fasting — as Gurudev explains, "kalp" means to be transformed completely, from the inside out. So the food discipline is paired with daily Gayatri upasana, pranayama, self-reflection, and the conscious shedding of old habits. Restraint is the "tapa," inner change is the "yoga" — Chandrayaan holds both together. There is a gentle "Mridu" form for newcomers and an intensive "Yati" form for deeper practice. The aim is one: a healthier body, a calmer mind, and a renewed way of seeing life.

  • Food intake follows the lunar phases — a measured ebb and flow from full moon to full moon
  • Daily Gayatri upasana, pranayama, and self-study alongside inner purification
  • Both Mridu (gentle) and Yati (intensive) forms — suited to every level of practitioner
